Thailand Visa on Arrival for Free until April 2020

Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports proposed to the cabinet to waive visa for Chinese and Indian tourists to increase the number of visitors to Thailand but the proposal was rejected. However, the cabinet decided to extend Thai Visa on Arrival fees waiver for another 6 months. Once finally confirmed, Visa on Arrival would be issued for free until April 2020.

On 20 August 2019, Thailand’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports proposed to the cabinet to allow tourists from China and India to stay in Thailand for up to 30 days without needing to apply for a visa. They wanted to avail Visa Exemption to these nations for one year, starting from November 2019. However, the cabinet did not agreed on the visa exemption proposal due to security concerns.

However, there is good news for Chinese, Indians and citizens of other 16 countries eligible for Thailand Visa on Arrival. Instead of granting Visa Exemption to the tourists from China and India, the cabinet agreed to extend Visa on Arrival fees waiver for 6 more months.

Thailand Visa on Arrival for Free until April 2020

The current Thailand Visa on Arrival fee waiver is due to end on 31 October 2019. New extension of Visa on Arrival fee waiver should be available for 18 countries and once finally confirmed it would be in place until the end of April 2020.

The extended Visa on Arrival fee waiver should help to increase the number of tourists visiting Thailand as the new period will cover the New Year, Chinese New Year and the Songkran Festival.

Eligible Countries

Thailand Visa on Arrival for Free in 2019 & 2020

Visa on Arrival fee waiver was first implemented in November 2018 and the period of the fee exemption was extended several times. Current Thailand Visa on Arrival fee exemption lasts until 31 October 2019

However, latest news from Thai government says that new extension of free Thailand Visa on Arrival should be available from 1 November 2019 to 30 April 2020. It would help tourists from 18 countries to visit Thailand during high season significantly cheaper!

Be noted that all the laws in Thailand are considered to be in power only once published in the Royal Gazette. This cabinet decision isn't finally confirmed because it wasn't published in the Royal Gazette yet and there might be some changes before it becomes official as it already happened before.
