When you are traveling in Thailand, it is necessary to exchange money for local currency (Thai baht - THB) as other currencies are not accepted in the country. There are many currency exchange offices at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK). Discover where to exchange money in Bangkok Airport to get the best rate.

Once you arrive at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport and you need an amount of THB for paying your visa on arrival fee (it can be paid in cash only), your only option is to change money at the exchange booths of the banks that are right in the customs hall. It’s not a good idea to change all your cash here because the rates are much worse than in other places.

If you're not comfortable with carrying a large amount of cash to exchange in Thailand but still want to get a much better exchange rate on your payments and withdrawals than your regular bank card is offering, consider getting a Wise Card that lets you spend abroad with the real exchange rate and works well in Thailand.

However, Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport conveniently has several currency exchange booths where you can convert cash and get fair rates. You should go down to the underground floor (B floor) next to the Airport Rail Link Suvarnabhumi Station and exchange your money there.

Bangkok Airport Money Changers with Best Exchange Rate

There are a number of currency exchange booths at the Exchange Zone of Suvarnabhumi Airport, and you will get really fair rates that will be much better than those at the bank. The exchange rates might vary a bit between the booths, so shop around. All the booths don’t charge commissions or fees. Keep in mind that usually you get better rates for larger notes in Thailand.

Best Money Exchange Rate at Bangkok Airport

In our experience, SuperRich usually offers the best money exchange rates in Thailand. Check more about the best foreign exchange rates offered by Super Rich Suvarnabhumi Airport.

There are also SuperRich exchange booths in central Bangkok, and the rates they offer are often slightly better than the ones at the airport. For locations of other Super Rich currency exchange booths in Bangkok and current rates offered by them, check here: Super Rich Thailand Currency Exchange in Bangkok.

However, you should always shop around for the best exchange rates, as the rates are dynamic and can change at any minute. For current exchange rates at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport, check the websites of the companies listed above.

Competition at Exchange Zone

One of the Thai banks opened their branch at the cluster of currency exchange booths near the Airport Rail Link station. To our surprise, Kasikornthai lately was offering some of the best currency exchange rates at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport.

A comparison of currency exchange rates offered by SuperRich (our long-time favorite) and Kasikornthai at the same time on the "B" level of Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport can be seen in the photo below.

The difference between the rates might not be that significant, but in some cases it can be higher than it looks like. For example, we usually exchange EUR to THB at the airport, and for our 50 euro notes, we get a lower rate at SuperRich, as they offer the top exchange rate only for larger bills. Kasikornthai offers the same rate for all euro notes, and the difference between the exchange rates rises up to 0.06 THB/EUR.

However, don't get fooled, as you will see many Kasikornthai currency exchange booths all around the airport. Good currency exchange rates are offered only at the branch near the Airport Rail Link station where SuperRich and other currency exchange booths can be found!

At the same time when the photos above were taken, all other branches of Kasikornthai and other banks at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport were offering really low rates, and you could get just 31.31 THB for 1 US dollar (lower by 1.62 THB/USD or 5.2%) or 35.93 THB for 1 euro (lower by 2.38 THB/EUR or 6.6%) if exchanging elsewhere at the airport.

Losing 5-7% of your trip budget just for currency exchange sounds pretty bad, doesn't it? So be wise!

An even better THB exchange rate is applied when you are using Wise Card for your payments and withdrawals.

Location of Bangkok Airport Currency Exchange Zone

The Suvarnabhumi currency exchange zone near the Airport Rail Link station was recently moved a bit further from its original location. However, it is not too far from where it was before, and there are plenty of signs leading to the "Exchange Zone" for you not to get lost.

Tips

You don't need to exchange money at Bangkok Airport to get a local SIM card, as it can be conveniently booked online at a much better price here: SIM Card for Thailand (BKK Airport Pick Up).

If you are departing from BKK Airport early in the morning or arriving late at night, consider staying at one of the hotels near Suvarnabhumi Airport, as it will make traveling from the airport to your hotel or vice versa much easier. For other convenient accommodation options, check our guide to Bangkok's best areas.

To get from the airport into the city, consider booking a private Suvarnabhumi Airport transfer, as it's the most convenient way for getting into the city center, which is about 30 km away. In case you are traveling on a budget, choose the Airport Rail Link train instead.

Travelers who have a connecting flight departing from another airport in Bangkok can use the free shuttle bus between BKK and DMK airports.

In case you are not planning to stay in Bangkok and want to get directly to Pattaya, Hua Hin, Kanchanaburi, Ayutthaya, or other popular destinations right from the airport, you can conveniently use a pre-booked Bangkok Airport transfer service.

Detailed information about other facilities and services at the airport can be found here: Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport (BKK).
